I Am Me

I am born,
      Into a certain genetic combination,
Into a certain social, cultural economic fabric,
That is not me.

I am trained, I am conditioned,
That is not me.

I am me
Because –
      I dream, I hope, I think,
I journey through life discovering myself,
      Once found, I aspire perfection.

Then when I peer into me:

I see the world just the way it is
And all the beauty it contains,

I am free from all the ties that bind
I bind myself to the world around me,
I revel in these ties that bind.

I see the barriers in my head dissolve
I see humanity and marvel at it,
            I revel in being human.
